What Have We Been Doing?

Here are some of our recent activities...

  • Lapworth

    A 5 mile circular walk from the Navigation Inn at Lapworth, via Baddesley Clinton, Chadwick End, Chessetts Wood and the Grand Union Canal.

  • ‘Love Lane’ by Patrick Gale

    The group enjoyed this novel but not quite as much as a previous read by Patrick Gale, A Place Called Winter. We enjoyed Gale's use of language; the way the characters were beautifully drawn and the chapters being written from five different perspectives.

  • Royal Air Force Museum, Cosford

    We travelled by train to visit the Museum.  The site was much bigger than we expected, and a real treat for those of us interested in aircraft and/or the RAF.

  • ‘The Sky Beneath Us’ by Fiona Valpy

    Mixed reviews, with criticism of the dual timeline and of the journal entries being unrealistically detailed.  All agreed the Himalayas and Sherpa details were very interesting, as were botanical descriptions.

  • Philosophy Here and Now

    We all know our own minds and bodies. So what's the problem?

  • Saint Augustine and Saint Thomas Aquinas

    The mediaeval "Scholastic" philosophers emerged from the dark ages and worked in the church and the network of emerging universities across Europe to bring religion and Aristotle's rationality into harmony.

  • Amazing Grace

    Divine Grace was so important, it was a source of schism in the church.  What exactly was / is it?  Have we lost something valuable in these more secular times?

  • Our 15-year Anniversary Celebration

    Our Social Event brought many members together to enjoy an afternoon celebrating the 15th anniversary of the founding of our South Solihull u3a.  Following memory quizzes and nostalgic presentations, a traditional English afternoon cream tea was served, accompanied by Prosecco.

  • "The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo" by Taylor Jenkins Reid

    This novel gave us the public versus the private lives of fictional Hollywood screen stars, with all genre of relationships involved.  Whilst this generated 4/5 for easy summer holiday entertainment and readability, we concluded that overall it only merited 3.5/5.
