The aim of this group is to practice our French to achieve a fluency that will enable us to cope with everyday living in France or other French-speaking countries.
We meet at 7pm - 9pm on a Tuesday evening every two weeks at a member's house. If you are interested, get in touch and I will let you know where and when the next meeting is set for. It is all fairly informal, so don't worry about your level of French! There are usually about 5-6 of us at any one meeting. It's a very friendly group!
With members of differing abilities, a good grounding in vocabulary and verbs is our main aim. We are not following a formal training course, and we are not lead by a tutor. We will be doing preparation before each meeting, such as watching a video on a specific subject, to give us something to focus on. We are also hoping to get French speakers to come and support us every month, to correct pronunciation and idiosyncratic use of the language, without putting pressure on them to attend every meeting.

Forthcoming Meetings

Past Meetings
-
Our last meeting of the year had a Christmas theme. We worked on '25 questions autour de noel', 'vocabulaire noel' and 'Joyeux Noel et bonne année'. Everyone came prepared to say something (in French) about our own Christmas.
-
We welcomed Liz, our 8th member. A larger number of members makes for a livelier meeting. Monique challenged us with some little quizzes about the names of thing found around the home and in the kitchen.
-
At our second meeting we role-played some situations where we might need to ask for help, with some occasionally hilarious results! A convivial interlude that included tea and a splendid 'gâteau aux pommes' was followed by a couple of simple quizzes to finish the evening.
-
We discussed the aims of the Group, and the format of future meetings. We had a little practice saying things about ourselves in French, and also had some fun trying to decipher some strange idiomatic French that we might come across in ordinary conversation.
