If you have a Windows 10 or 11 computer, how do you use it? Do you use it efficiently? Can you do all you want to do with it?
This is the first of 6 sessions that covers some of the most important things to learn about home computing. Although these sessions will be starting from the very basics, in line with the u3a ethos of sharing skills and knowledge, more competent members are also invited to come along to share their skills and knowledge, and perhaps learn something new too Booking is essential to ensure that you can be accommodated on the course and that you receive the necessary joining instructions.

- Demo Operating System: Windows 10. Differences from other Windows OS.
- Demo Apps: Open Source vs. Licenced software.
- Operating System
- Knowing Your Computer: Settings/About.
- 'God Mode': Every setting, all at once.
- The Search Bar: Find programs and lost files.
- Keeping Updated: How to keep your operating system, browser, and antivirus software up-to-date.
- Bugs and Crashes: Learn to use the Task Manager, and when you need to restart your device.
- File Management
- File Organisation: Using File Explorer. Logical folder structure. File names.
- Drag & Drop: Does it Copy or Move?
- File Associations: Choose default apps by file type.
- File Extensions: Know the common file type, such as .DOC, .XLS, .PDF, and .JPG.
- Using a non-default app: ‘Open With’
