In this 2nd sessions we are concerned with knowing that anything you do with your computer is save and secure, and that if you do make a big mistake you can recover from it.  There are some simple rules and procedures that you can adopt to keep you, your system and your data safe.

Topics for Session 2:

  • Security and Privacy
    • Passwords & Managers:  Creating strong passwords.  Using a password manager.
    • Password or Passkey?:  Replacing passwords
    • Safe email:  Recognise fake emails and phishing links.
    • Password Protecting Files.
    • Backup Strategies: Create frequent backups using cloud storage or external drives.  Practice recovery to prove backup is working.
    • System Recovery:  What to do now to prepare for recovering a corrupt system.
  • Internet Proficiency
    • Search Engine Mastery:  Use effective search strategies to find trustworthy information quickly.
    • Browser Management:  Use multiple tabs, bookmarks, and extensions, to create more efficient and safer browsing.
    • Safe Browsing:  Finding reputable sites.  Recognising suspicious pop-ups.  Avoiding click-bait adverts.
    • Downloading:  Where do they go?
    • Keeping Control:  What to do if your browser misbehaves.
  • AI Awareness
    • AI Tools:  Using AI tools to become more productive.
    • Responsible AI Usage:  Understand that AI is not a replacement for human input.
