The group felt that Precipice, a historical thriller about a Venetia Stanley's affair with the Prime Minister H. H. Asquith, was well written and we could imagine the places and characters Harris described

We were amazed at Asquith's apparent disregard for security in throwing away and passing on sensitive documents. Some of us felt that the number of letters Harris included could have been reduced.

Although the story was based on true events, weaving it around the fictional Paul Deemer made the novel interesting and very readable.

We learnt a lot about this period of history; we have read previously of the period but not of this aspect and we noted that marriage was the only way out for Venetia, both to escape her relationship with Asquith and to retain her social standing.

We noted that the Post Service was a lot better in those days with prompt deliveries even in rural areas.
