The group felt that this was a well written novel; the descriptions of landscapes were particularly evocative of the geographical settings, with the emotions of grief and loss particularly well drawn.
The novel was immersive and a page-turner but we found the subject matter difficult to read about as the collision, corruption and betrayal portrayed are very contemporary issues.
The character of Justin developed throughout the book and Le Carre kept the tension constant, even on the final page.
We highlighted only one quote from this novel:
"Those who watch suffering and do nothing about it, in her book, were little better than those who inflict it. They were the bad Samaritan"
Group Review: The average score for this novel was 7.8/10.
