Members of the Science Group travelled by train to visit the Museum at RAF Cosford near Shifnal, Shropshire.  The site was much bigger than we expected, and a real treat for those of us interested in aircraft and/or the RAF.

Over 70 aircraft were on display; some standing out in the open and others safely and impressively displayed in the hangers across the site.  In terms of age, they spanned both the earliest flying machines and the recent past, with examples from manufacturers and air forces around the world.

Most notable were the planes, munitions, kit and other memorabilia from the world wars, including several planes and rockets used against the UK by the Nazi Germans. Many notable people - inventors, designers, politicians, commanders and of course pilots - were pictured, described and honoured in the displays.

The museum café offered a welcome and comfortable break before another round of discovery, but all agreed that there was too much to see and appreciate in a single visit - a return trip will be needed at some point!
