We organised a sociable evening for us to play Boules (Pétanque) at Solihull Petanque Club. The organisers explained the rules and showed us the basics of the game.  All the equipment was supplied.

Unfortunately, just as we got started a massive thunderstorm descended on us - you don't want to be standing in the middle of a field waving steel balls around with lightening flashing all around!  We made a hasty retreat to the (rather noisy) bar to watch the torrential rain beating on the windows and the floodwaters rising around us.

We had arranged for a supper to be served at 8:30 (when our game would have finished), so after a patient wait we were able to sit down in a much quieter room to a very good lasagne, garlic bread and salad.  During which the rain stopped and the ankle-deep water in the car-park drained away!

The Re-run

The organisers of the Club very kindly offered us a second go on 10th Sept. (no supper this time).  Although a few members couldn't make the new date, we had a good turn-out and everyone got to play 3 matches in teams of 2 or 3.  After some complicated mathematics the winners were announced:  Third: Alison Gregory, with 2 wins + 12 point,  Second: Alison Hynes with 3 wins + 6 points.  First: Paul Woodcock with 3 wins + 18 points.
