We met to discuss the subjectivity of time. Preparation material was the Stanford Encyclopaedia on experiencing time., videos about philosophy of time, about the neuroscience of time, and on subjective time
We spent some time on presentism / eternalism, and noted that special relativity links time and space, so if space is real, then so should time be. It seems helpful to distinguish space populated by (physical) entities from time populated by events and durations between them. Whereas in space we can retrace our steps, we cannot go back in time, but if we could the expect would still be there (or then!). We discussed how time drags when we wait for something, but flies by when we are busy with something new or fascinating; and yet looking back the reverse is the case - we remember the busy and exciting moments in some detail, whereas the boring periods are often soon dismissed.
