Trip to the National Memorial Arboretum
Dorridge u3a are organising a visit to the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire on Monday 11th August, and have extended the invitation to our members.
The National Memorial Arboretum
The National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire is a beautiful and inspiring place; the 150-acres of the Arboretum form a living landscape and a home for more than 400 memorials waiting to be discovered. From the Armed Forces and Emergency Services to civilian organisations that supported our Nation in times of need, people from all walks of life are represented by the memorials, with designs that are rich in symbolism reflecting those they remember.
In 2025 the National Memorial Arboretum will be reflecting upon and remembering the significant events that brought about the end of the Second World War and marking the anniversaries of both VE and VJ Day.
For those who wish to bring a picnic there is a designated picnic area within the grounds as well as benches along the Arboretum paths.
The Land Train
The Arboretum’s Land Train is the perfect way to enjoy the 150-acre site. The 50-minute journey will provide lovely views across the landscape and will introduce you to some of the hundreds of memorials. It features pre-recorded commentary providing an ideal introduction to the Arboretum and its many stories. You can of course book it on the day, if you wish.
Transport
Transport to the Arboretum will be organised by Dorridge u3a. The trip will leave Dorridge Village Hall at 9.00am and set off back again at 4.30pm. There is parking available at the rear of the Village Hall car park.
Payment
The price for the trip, including entry to the Arboretum, is £17 per person, or £23 including the Land Train ride.
