We discussed this year’s Reith Lectures: Rutger Bregman – "Moral Revolution: starting at  https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m002mmrv.  The four lectures explored the idea of a moral revolution, arguing that small, committed groups can change the world. Key themes included  1) The "moral decay" and lack of seriousness among today's elites;  2) Historical parallels to past movements, such as the campaign to abolish slavery;  3) A call for a "new realist utopia," advocating ideas like universal basic income, fairer taxation, and  4) responsible tech regulation and The importance of "moral ambition" and urging privileged individuals to use their talents to make a difference.  While idealistic, people of quite moderate means did dedicate themselves to social change against the odds, and the talks were inspiring to some, but his ideas clearly fashioned in a religious family in a social democratic country may seem - and are - idealistic.  But Aristotelian virtue ethics are perhaps unfashionable these days when Mammon is our idol.
