About u3a

South Solihull u3a

South Solihull u3a is an independent, self-governing and self-financing charity, registered Charity Number 1155989, registered in England and Wales.

We are a lively and friendly group of over 200 members, from Knowle, Bentley Heath and surrounding communities, but wherever you live, you are welcome to join us; we are always open to new members.

Our activities are organised by a committee drawn from our members.  All of our committee, coordinators and other helpers are volunteers.

Members pay an annual subscription that covers general expenses, such as head office management and the cost of our core meetings. Any other costs incurred for specific events, such as transport, room hire, entrance fees, and fees for external subject experts are paid for by individual members, as incurred.

Other local u3as

Of course, we'd love you to join our u3a, but if you would prefer to join a group in a different location, there are many other u3as in the area.

National u3a

The University of the Third Age (u3a) is a non-religious, non-political organisation that exists to provide a framework in which retired and semi-retired people from all backgrounds can get involved in helping to create, run and join activities that improve their knowledge and skills, enhance their physical and mental well-being and keep them socially connected.

Local u3as are supported by the Third Age Trust – the national body that determines our core principles and vision, and supports our activities.

The Trust publishes a quarterly magazine called u3a matters that our members may receive by post at no extra cost.  Previously known as TAM – Third Age Matters
